SoundLife Scarborough Annual Report 2023-2024

January 2025 | Annual Report

SoundLife Scarborough is the centre for music and community engagement at the University of Toronto Scarborough. 2023-24 marked our first full year of operation.

SoundLife Scarborough (SLS) is an Extra-departmental Unit D (EDU:D) operating out of the Department of Arts, Culture and Media at the University of Toronto Scarborough. Extradepartmental units (EDUs) are flexible and multidisciplinary entities organized around emerging research and teaching areas that span disciplines. SLS officially came into being in July 2022, with its public launch taking place in May 2023. Special thanks to Bill Gough, Mary Silcox, and Martha Harris (Office of Vice-Principal & Dean); Irena Creed, Alison Mountz, and Ariella Lukach (Office of Vice-Principal Research & Innovation); Barry Freeman and Thy Phu (Department of Arts, Culture and Media); Kimberly Tull and Melanie Blackman (Community Partnerships & Engagement); and Al Hearn (Centre for Teaching and Learning) for their support.

Our projects foster healthy communities through participatory music-making, ongoing partnerships, and research grounded in reciprocity. We invite members of the UTSC and broader communities to join us in creative, flexible, accessible weekly music-making experiences, and create and engage in special events on campus and beyond. SLS continues to work with Community Partnerships & Engagement, Indigenous Initiatives, Arts & Science Work-Integrated Learning, Healthy Campus, and other units across UTSC.
